Entrepreneurs start business for many reasons. The most common are: desire to be your own boss, financial security, make money from a hobby or have an idea for a product or service that will capture a niche market.
For what ever reason you start a business, you should consider developing a business plan. You will soon find out what you DON'T know about the business. Start by visiting your local library and read up on the industry trends, start up books, sample business plans and other resources.
Another great place to start is visiting the home page of the U.S. Small Business Administration, www.sba.gov. You can listen to podcasts about financing options and other topics. You can download forms and learn more about the business plan process and find local resources that can help you.
Free e-mail consultations and advice is available from experienced business experts. Visit the web page for the Service Corps of Retired Executives, www.score.org and register for their newsletter. You will be surprised at the valuable advice you can receive over the Internet.
Be careful, do not subscribe to commercial web sites that offer to sell you software for non existent grant money or that ask you for personal information so they can quickly finance your start up. TIP of the Day--There is no EASY MONEY ! ID theft is rampant over the internet, don't be a victim.
